Review of Pharmacy Remuneration and Regulation

The federal Department of Health is currently undertaking a Review of Pharmacy Remuneration and Regulation.

The independent Review Panel is chaired by a Commissioner of the Productivity Commission, Professor Stephen King, and its final report is due in March 2017.

The Review’s comprehensive Terms of Reference include the existing regulatory regime and the Pharmacy Location Rules, which control the approvals required for new and relocated pharmacies.
In July 2016, the Review Panel released a Discussion Paper, the relevant section of which is headed “Regulation” (refer pages 28-36).

The Review Panel is inviting written submissions on all aspects of the Review, including the future of the Pharmacy Location Rules, until Friday 23 September 2016.
